Another Day, Another Concert – Last night we got to see The Dead South in Zurich at The Hall. Known for their unique blend of folk, bluegrass, and alternative country, the Canadian band has built a dedicated fanbase with their energetic performances and signature sound.
The venue wasn’t quite sold out, with around 2,500 attendees. Also, the audience was quite noticeably older compared to my last visit for Dean Lewis. Still, there was plenty of anticipation in the air and lots of happy faces.
Before The Dead South hit the stage, Australian singer-songwriter Henry Wagons warmed up the crowd. With his charismatic presence and country-infused tunes. He did a great job warming up the crowd.

Then, at around 9 PM, it was time for the main act. The Dead South had quite a pretty stage setup. It resembled an old Western town, them performing in the middle of main street. It kinda looked like straight out of a classic Western movie. Musically, they delivered exactly what you’d expect from their records, with an abundance of fast-paced banjo riffs and tight harmonies. While the crowd was enthusiastic, they remained relatively calm/quiet… Apart from a few rowdy beer-fueled fans and some incomprehensible shouts and screams throughout the night.
Talented Musicians at The Hall
The Dead South undeniably showcased their musical talent, proving their ability to captivate an audience with high-energy bluegrass and folky tunes. However, as the set progressed, I felt like some songs began to blend together a little too well. It felt a little repetitive. Maybe that was just me, I don’t know. But I sometimes caught myself thinking “did they not just play that song already”…
While I appreciated the opportunity to see them live and soak in the atmosphere, I’m not sure I’d rush to experience a full-length concert again. That said, for fans of their sound, I’m sure it was an enjoyable night. Filled with foot-stomping rhythms and plenty of banjo tunes.

There were way more than 2,500 ‘attendees’ last Thursday.

It was just you 😉
‘That said, for fans of their sound, I’m sure it was an enjoyable night.’
It sure was.

Thanks for posting the photos, I’d really love to see the final shot – the one taken from the back of the stage, the band up front, the audience in the backdrop

Hi Jim
Thanks for your comment and for taking the time to read the post.
It’s totally fine if we don’t agree on or experience a show the same way 🙃 I’m happy if you had a great time and enjoyed yourself. That’s all that matters in the end.
Also, in regards to the number of people at the show… That is the information I received directly from the promoter. Since I’m really bad at guessing how many people were actually there, I kinda have to trust the info I get from those seeing actual ticketsales numbers 🤷🏽♀️
Happy you like the photos at least 😅 Unfortunately I was not the one that took the final shot from the stage, so I can’t help with that. Sorry…

Hey Shirley,
Thanks for coming back. I find the numbers thing just weird …
I was seated in the balcony – row 7 – and it was pretty much full up there, I tried to make a rough count (60 across x how many rows ??) but gave up … plus it looked pretty busy (as in packed out) downstairs.
This was my first visit to The Hall, I was very impressed with the venue, shame that I’m not living about 700km closer …
Absolutely agree that we may all have different takes on gigs, and as you say it’s the enjoyment that matters.
Aside, nice site you have here, haven’t yet worked out how to do emojis so have a thumbs up.
