Another Day, Another Concert – Last night I got to see Architects in Zurich at The Hall. Yes, the genres I’ve been covering lately are all over the place, but I really needed something new, so here we are at my first ever metalcore concert.
Before the main act took the stage, we had two support acts warming up the crowd. First up was the band Guilt Trip, a hardcore/metalcore band from the UK. Their sound was quite intense, hitting hard with aggressive riffs. They wasted no time in setting the tone for the night, delivering a powerful and energetic performance that got the crowd moving.
Next was Brutus, a Belgian trio known for their unique blend of post-rock, hardcore, and progressive elements. With Stefanie Mannaerts impressively handling both drums and vocals, their set was both atmospheric and heavy, offering a contrast to the straightforward aggression of Guilt Trip. Despite their different style, they did a great job of keeping the energy levels high.

Architects Take the Stage
Then, at 9 PM, it was finally time for Architects. The energy in the venue instantly shifted up a notch, and you could feel the excitement building. Just so y’all know, this was my first metalcore concert and obviously my first Architects show. I was blown away—not only by the music (quite literally) but by the sheer intensity of the energy in the room.
Once the band started playing, it felt like a tornado ripped through me. The music made my entire body vibrate. And I’m guessing I wasn’t the only one. Looking at the crowd, it was clear that they were feeling it too. By the time the second song hit, the first couple of crowd surfers were already making their way to the front.
The Ultimate Metalcore Experience: Chaos and Energy
There was a lot of screaming, some sick guitar riffs, relentless drumming, and a whole lot of jumping. The crowd was fully engaged, and the energy stayed super high throughout the entire set.
Is this genre and music going to become my favorite? Probably not. But it was super refreshing to dive into this new world of music. Especially from a photography standpoint, it was a whole different and exciting experience.
Even though it was quite challenging for me—with the ever-changing lights and the chaotic movement making it harder to get good shots—I definitely want to try shooting more metal shows. There’s just something about capturing that raw, unfiltered energy that makes it all the more rewarding.
