Another Day, Another Concert – Last night we got to see Sam Fender in Zurich at Halle 622. He brought his electrifying live show to Halle 622 in Zurich, and it was for sure an unforgettable night.
The concert, which sold out incredibly fast, had fans buzzing with excitement long before the doors even opened. So many people were excited to see the British indie rock sensation take the stage. Fender has come a long way since his early days. And after seeing him open for Dermot Kennedy at Papiersaal, this show was on a whole new level.
CMAT Warms Up the Crowd
Before Sam Fender hit the stage, Irish singer-songwriter CMAT warmed up the crowd. She brought a fun and engaging energy that helped set the tone for the night. She did a good job hyping up the audience. The crowd was quite an interesting mix… While there were, of course, locals in attendance, it felt like the majority were British fans. Some who had traveled for the show even. The front row was very much dominated by younger girls. There were a few guys too, but beyond that, the audience was quite diverse, with people in their twenties all the way up to couples in their sixties.

When Sam Fender finally stepped on stage at 9 PM, the energy did shift a little. The front rows were fully vibing from the start. But from the balcony seats, the crowd seemed a bit hesitant at first. The band’s keys player kept trying to hype up the audience. As we are unfortunately used to, the Swiss audience did need a while to get fired up. The setlist was a well-balanced mix of older hits and fresh new tracks from his latest album, People Watching. The first highlight of the night was when he played the title track off his recent album. This was when the audience really started to warm up. One of my personal highlights was Howdon Aldi Death Queue. It featured an amazing light show that even reached those of us up in the seats.
Powerful Finale with “Seventeen Going Under” and “Hypersonic Missiles”
Before leaving the stage, Fender delivered a phenomenal rendition of Seventeen Going Under, a song that always hits differently live. But of course, the night wasn’t over yet. Sam and the band returned for an encore, closing with the explosive Hypersonic Missiles. The energy on stage was incredible, and you could tell how much fun the band was having. Even though I didn’t know every song (yes, I should be doing my homework before concerts!), the atmosphere and musicianship were top-notch. Fender’s guitar-driven sound shone throughout the night. I can only imagine how epic he must be in a massive arena setting. Zurich might not have been quite at that level yet, but I was so happy to have been part of it!
