Another day another concert! Still excited that I got to see Raye at the Montreux Jazz Festival this past week. Being back in Montreux was great especially since the weather was an absolute dream!

Playing at the Montreux Jazz Festival is a big deal for any artist. But headlining one of the nights is even bigger. This opportunity must have been even more significant for Raye, an internationally acclaimed artist with Swiss roots. Performing on the new Lake Stage and co-headlining with Janelle Monae, Raye delivered a magical show. Having seen Raye perform before, first as a support act for Khalid and later for SZA, it’s clear that she just gets better and better with each performance.

Shining Bright: Raye @ Montreux Jazz Festival

Raye’s stage presence is truly captivating. Her immense talent and passion for music spread like wildfire, creating an electric atmosphere. It was so cute to see how excited she was to have a large part of her family at the show. Even her Swiss grandpa from Appenzell who saw her perform for the first time apparently. This for sure added an extra sweetness to the night for Raye. But the magic didn’t stop with her; her band was phenomenal, bringing joy, passion, and energy to the stage. Their smiles, stank faces, and amazing music made the audience feel incredibly lucky to witness such a performance.

A Setlist Showcasing Raye’s Versatility

The Montreux setlist was what I expected, hits, covers and showcasing the diversity and variety of Raye’s talents. “The Thrill Is Gone,” “Worth It,” and “Mary Jane” were the opening songs that couldn’t have been any better. The crowd was grooving and vibing from the start, and I was a little proud of the Swiss audience for singing along a lot. I was a little sad to have missed “Ice Cream Man”. I was running back to the media center to put away my cameras. But I made it back in time for the ending of “Genesis,” glad it’s such a long song 😀 Bangers like “Black Mascara” and “Prada” had the crowd going wild again.

Raye’s Iconic Performance and Future Shows

Raye’s cover of “It’s a Man’s World” was a standout moment, with her iconic voice doing justice to the legendary song. The closing track, “escapism.” was the perfect end to an amazing set. The audience’s energy and attentiveness throughout the show were remarkable, with “escapism.” being a highlight for many. Raye’s performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival for surshowed and confirmed what an absolute queen she is and that all her success is so well deserved. For those eager to see her live, she’ll be performing at Zurich Openair later in August. The future is bright for Raye, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for this talented artist.
