Another day, another concert—this year’s first show was James Bay in Zurich, and it didn’t disappoint! Originally booked for a smaller venue, the overwhelming demand for tickets led to a venue upgrade. So off to Halle 622!
Before James Bay took the stage in Zurich, the evening began with singer/songwriter Áine Deane. She charmed the audience with her heartfelt songs. It was so cute to see a few fans of hers in the crowd. Ther was one particularly passionate supporter who sang along to every lyric, clearly having the time of her life.

James Bay Delivers a Charismatic Performance
At 9 p.m., the spotlight shifted to James Bay, who opened his set with the recent hit “Up All Night” (where was Noah Kahan?!). The stage setup was simple yet effective. Featuring risers for drums and keys and a dynamic lighting display that gave us some nice light effects. James’ natural charisma and amazing stage presence made every moment captivating. The setlist was a perfect blend of fan favorites and new material. My personal highlights were mostly the oldies like “Wild Love,” “Scars,” “Best Fake Smile”. But very happy that also “Dogfight” from his latest album made it on the setlist.

A Memorable Night Despite Halle 622’s Challenges
Although the venue wasn’t entirely sold out (unlike the Lausanne show the night before), it was filled nicely. Halle 622’s narrow, hallway-like layout, made it challenging for the ambiance to fully settle in. It gave the gig slightly mellow vibe at times. That said, James worked hard to energize the crowd, especially during the final songs. Pretty sure my hands will be sore from clapping along towards the end. Reflecting on how far James Bay has come since I first saw him at the Blue Balls Festival in 2015, it’s clear he knows how to connect with his audience. Swiss crowds may be reserved, but we ended the night on a high note. According to James himself, we gave him “the best Friday evening this week.”
