Concert Pictures: Janelle Monae @ Montreux Jazz Festival

Another day another concert! After being in awe of Raye’s set at the Montreux Jazz Festival, we got to experience another power-women on stage. Co-headlining the night was Janelle Monae on the Lake Stage.

Shortly after the stage was changed from Raye’s amazing setup, it was time for Janelle Monae to bring her unique vibes to the Montreux Jazz Festival. This was my second time seeing her perform here; back then, she shared the stage at the Auditorium Stravinsky with Lizzo. Just as expected, she put on another great show with amazing costumes and power women in her band. Her flower costume at the beginning was absolutely stunning and so colorful.

Highlights of Janelle Monae’s Performance

One of the memorable moments was when Janelle Monae introduced the song “Champagne Shit” with a champagne glass filled with bubbly, a welcome refreshment given the hot weather outside. Another highlight of the night was when she invited fans up on stage during “Paid in Pleasure,” leading to an impromptu dance party. Impressively, one of the fans had traveled all the way from the US just to see her perform.

Empowering Vibes in Montreux

While Janelle showcased her rapping talent, her very impressive vocalist talents were undeniable. The song I was particularly keen to hear was “Tightrope,” as it was the track that introduced me to her music. Just like last time, her performance was nothing short of iconic. Though I might not be familiar with all her songs, the energy she brings to the stage is very contagious.I can imagine everyone in the audience leaving the venue feeling more empowered and invigorated than when they arrived. It was truly a magical night, showcasing two incredibly talented and inspiring women on stage amidst a beautiful backdrop with the new Lake Stage <3
