Another day, another concert. This time it was Jamiroquai in Zurich. The British funk and acid-jazz legends around frontman Jay Kay have been grooving their way through the music world since the early ’90s, blending smooth basslines, irresistible rhythms, and that signature funky flair. It was my second show in a row at the venue, and the contrast couldn’t have been bigger.
Zurich is definitely still into funk! While the show wasn’t entirely sold out, the floor was absolutely packed and boiling with energy.
A Funky Warm-Up and Packed Hallenstadion
The evening kicked off with Franc Moody, who delivered a cool DJ set to warm up the crowd. At that point, the arena was still filling up — though glancing toward the foyer explained why: huge groups of fans were hanging out, chatting, and enjoying a beer (or three) before the main event.

Once it was time for Jamiroquai to hit the stage, the atmosphere flipped like a switch. The standing area was now filled to the back, and suddenly, everyone was moving. Heads were bobbing, people were dancing, and the energy was contagious.
Stunning Visuals and Top-Tier Musicianship
The stage design was a visual treat. Multiple risers for the band, a massive LED wall in the back, and a sloped catwalk for Jay Kay to strut up and down. My personal highlight was when the visuals transformed into an underwater world full of colorful fishies. Such a fun touch!
While the setlist seemed a bit short, the band played for almost two and a half hours, jamming through extended versions of their hits and even introducing a few brand-new songs from their upcoming album. The live arrangements sounded both familiar and fresh, showcasing just how tight and dynamic Jamiroquai’s musicianship still is.

Jamiroquai in Zurich: Jay Kay is Still an Icon
Jay Kay remains the charismatic showman we all know and love. While he’s not quite as whirlwind-crazy on stage as in earlier years, he’s still got the moves. He did seem to be battling his in-ear monitors throughout the night, joking that he’s “always been a monitor guy” but it didn’t take away from his performance. The crowd was fully engaged, with the entire floor dancing and vibing along from start to finish.
I’ve always loved Jamiroquai’s music (thanks, Dad!), but live, they’re on a whole other level. Whether it’s a small club like Kaufleuten or a huge arena like Hallenstadion, this band proves again and again: funk never goes out of style.
