Another day, another concert. This time it was Parkway Drive in Zurich. They took over Hallenstadion. And what a night it was. The Australian metalcore giants are known for delivering some of the most explosive and visually stunning live shows in the scene.

With breathtaking stage productions and an unmatched energy from frontman Winston McCall, it’s no wonder their concerts are considered a must-see even for people who don’t usually listen to metal – aka me.

Aussie Power: “Amity Affliction” and “Thy Art is Murder” as Support

Before Parkway Drive hit the stage, the crowd was treated to not just one, but two other Australian bands. First up was The Amity Affliction, who wasted no time in making sure the first pits of the night opened up.

Following Amity Affliction, “Thy Art is Murder” kept the adrenaline flowing and the mood high, preparing everyone for more chaos and headbanging. Both bands did an incredible job warming up the thousands of fans packed into the Hallenstadion.

Parkway Drive in Zurich: an Explosive Stage Show

At around 20:30, Parkway Drive made their entrance. Marching into the venue through the crowd, accompanied by a massive flag. Starting off on the b-stage, the band had the audience fired up from the first note. And while we know Parkway Drive shows are always heavy on pyro, it felt like it took a little while before the flames really kicked in. But once they did, there was no shortage of fire. So much so that even I (the one who always complains about being cold) had zero excuses. The entire stage setup was a masterpiece, featuring a bridge that connected the main and b-stage, which was raised and lowered throughout the night.

Circle Pits, Guest Vocals, and Pyro Madness

One of the most memorable moments was when Winston left the stage completely. Just to show up in the middle of the crowd. Quickly a massive circle pit formed around him. Instead of walking back, he went for a full-speed crowdsurf back to the main stage — an absolutely wild sight. Another highlight came when the singers of both support acts joined Parkway Drive on stage for a song. And of course, we can’t forget the rotating drum kit — upside-down drumming inside a frame that was literally on fire. Unreal!

Parkway Drive Shows: The Taylor Swift of Metal?

As a non-metal listener, I’m always blown away by the intensity and production value of shows like this. The pits, the headbanging, the atmosphere. It’s so weird to me, but in the most fascinating way. Honestly, Parkway Drive concerts remind me a little of Taylor Swift shows, but for the “big bad headbanging people.” Dancers, pyro, costume changes (at least for Winston), an insane setlist, and flawless production. There’s just so much going on. All in all, it was another unforgettable night at Hallenstadion. While the music itself still has to grow on me, one thing is certain: I’ll be back the next time Parkway Drive hits Zurich.
