Only last week Shirley introduced you to Caroline Chevin, a Swiss singer. We’d like to start and support our Swiss musicians a bit more, that’s why today is my turn! This week I would like to tell you all about a singer/songwriter from Lausanne: Bastian Baker
Bastian has become a pretty successful musician, not only in his own country, but also outside of Switzerland he is playing sold out shows!
One of the founders of the famous Montreux Jazz Festival gave him the opportunity to perform some of his songs on one of the smaller stages at the festival, back when no one knew who he was. Pretty big honor to play there…
Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to see him solo yet. However, I was able to watch him perform at the “Energy Stars for Free” concert last year, together with Stress, Noah V. & M.A.M. That performance was pretty awesome!
For his first album “Tomorrow May Not Be Better” he just received a double platinum award! Not bad… Listening to it I must say, it’s an amazingly mature pop/rock album. With his latest album “Too Old to Die Young” he shot into the charts immediately. All songs have been written and composed by the youngster himself. Kudos to this young talent! He describes his music as the kind you listen to around a campfire, enjoying a warm summer evening with friends. Ok, I’ll keep that in mind and will make sure to pack his CD when I’m off to the US next summer 😉
Bastian’s latest single “79 Clinton Street” landed in the Swiss Top 20 charts right after release. The video to this song was shot in – yes of course, New York! Those of you, who know me, know that I love New York, so of course I was very excited about this video. Even though you don’t see the Empire State Building or Times Square, it’s still a great video, have a look.
Back in 2012 the guy from Lausanne took home awards at the Swiss Music Awards and the Prix Walo. If you want to see him live this year, you’ve still got a couple of chances. One of the shows left on his tour will be in Zurich on the 14th of December at the Komplex. Only a few tickets are left, so go get yours on the Starticket.
Also, all fans should mark the 15th of this month in their calendars. Bastian will be performing at the “Credit Suisse Sports Awards 2013” where the most successful Swiss athletes are being rewarded for their achievements. Not only Bastian Baker will be performing, also the british super star Robbie Williams will be there.
