Looks like we won’t be having any festivals this year either, so I figured we all could use a little throwback post to one Zurich Openair 2019, one of the festivals I got to go to before the world shut down a few months later.

The Zurich Openair is the largest and probably the most popular festival in the canton of Zurich. For the past few years it’s attracted thousands of people over the course of 4 days.

About Zurich Openair

The festival is located a little outside of the city (obviously), just a few tram stops away from Oerlikon or the airport, so pretty easy to get to. Getting away/home from the festival is a little more tricky. Even though there are always extra busses/shuttles, they get packed and if you try to get out of there after the headliner – good luck 😀 Nevertheless, it’s a festival I would definitely go back to.

My first time at Zurich’s Festival

2019 was actually the first year I went. Bäckstage.ch needed a photographer on pretty short notice, so I was super happy to fill in and help them out (and help myself out to haha). I’ve been able to photograph other festivals before, like Openair Lumnezia or Winterthurer Musikfestwochen, but this was my first really big and major festival. So thanks again to Patrick for having me 🙂

Zurich Openair 2019 is Histroy, What About 2021 – Is It Happening?

The big question… The answer: We don’t know. There is no official statement yet, but looking at what’s happening with other festivals this year, I guess it doesn’t look too good. Some of the biggest Swiss festivals like Openair St. Gallen or Greenfield Festival have already announced they won’t be back until earliest 2022. Let’s just hope that this panoramic, panini, pandemonium or whatever else we’re calling covid-19 nowadays, will be over by then, or at least under control.
