Snow Patrol is finally back on tour and made a stop in Switzerland. Not entirely true, they did stop by last year for a short performance at Kaufleuten as part of the Energy Live Session. This time it will be a way bigger show, so Samsung Hall was the place to be this Saturday.

But before the band from Northern Ireland got on stage, it was JC Stewart’s turn. This young artist has been on the Samsung Hall stage before when he was opening for Kodaline last year. This time with a small band and no Halloween make up. After him, another great artist took the stage. One of my top discoveries these past years. Foy Vance, an amazing singer and songwriter with a great mustache and even better Songs.

And then it was time for Snow Patrol

A little after 9 pm Snow Patrol came up on stage. There were some technical issues in the beginning. Seemed as if lead singer Gary Lightbody’s in-ear monitors weren’t working properly. After a few seconds everything was fixed, or at least it seemed as if. Maybe Gary is just such a pro that you couldn’t tell anymore 🙂 The stage design was pretty impressive. A gigantic LED wall was built in the background, all the way out to the sides of the stage and floor to ceiling. We kept seeing great scenes from the stage but also beautiful pictures of this world we’re living in. Sometimes even from up in space.

Again, a fan was invited up on stage

This seems to be a new trend. Snow Patrol invited a fan up on stage. Not to sing one of their greatest songs „Run“ but to play the guitar! And they let him play – what a great gesture from the band. The song is already a very emotional song (at least for me), but this gave the song a whole other, and very special touch, especially for Miguel, the fan that got to play with Snow Patrol 🙂 The audience loved it, the applauding was even louder than usual.

The Samsung Hall was packed, the fans were in a great mood. I’m sure it didn’t hurt that it was a Saturday and most people didn’t have to go to work the next day. The atmosphere was great, there was singing and dancing and a lot of smiles. During „Shut Your Eyes“ there was a huge singalong – first everyone together, then just the people up on the balcony, the people on the floor and then back to everyone together, it sounded great. During the show, we got to enjoy some great light designs and nice pictures on the big screen – be it the night sky filled with stars or just a great laser show.

Chasing Cars and other big hits end the show

After just a few songs, someone in the audience was requesting “Chasing Cars” – Gary Lightbody asked for a little patience, he’s sure that song will come in due time 🙂 And there it was, towards the end of the show of course. The audience loved it! The two encores „What If This Is All the Love You Ever Get?” and “Just Say Yes” were 2 great songs to end the evening. Snow Patrol left many people with smiles on their faces! I was very grateful to finally have had the chance to see an entire show (and not just 3-4 songs) – it definitely was a great night!
